Who We Are

About Us

Our Mission

The Washington Appellate Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the highest quality representation to individuals appealing criminal convictions, civil commitments, dependencies, and terminations of parental rights. Our mission is to protect the constitutional rights of all citizens, regardless of economic status. Founded in 1993, the Project has made impactful changes in the law, court rules, and in appellate public defense. Our office provides training, education and guidance in the community.

We are a group of attorneys and paralegals committed to a common goal of ensuring that all people are treated fairly and equitably in our justice system.

Meet Our Team Members

“The true measure of our character is how we treat the poor, the disfavored, the accused, the incarcerated, and the condemned. We are all implicated when we allow other people to be mistreated.”

Bryan Stevenson, Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption
